Alfred smiled and looked down at the little boy sleeping in his arms, rocking him gently in hopes of getting him back to sleep, humming a soft tune to him as he thought about the months he had missed.
Just a few weeks after you had given birth to little ________, Alfred had had to leave because of the ongoing war, and would have to be gone several months. You had been so strong, you hadn't cried, you had wanted to, but you hadn't, and he was so proud of you for it, and he was proud of you for holding it all together on your own, and staying strong for both him and the little guy.
Alfred had gotten back home just a few minutes ago, you had been sleeping when he came in, he had been about to kiss your forehead and wake you to tell you he was home but then he had heard soft whining sounds coming from the crib in the room you and he shared and had immediately gone over to pick up his son and start rocking him.
He had Alfred's wide blue eyes, and your hair, but with a little bit of it sticking up in the front that curved inwards, making a sort of crescent moon shape, Alfred knew that would lead to a lot of trouble later when he was older, but for now he wasn't going to worry about it.
"You're so perfect, you know that baby boy?"
The sound of someone talking woke you from your sleep and you looked up groggily to see someone in your room holding your child, you didn't recognize him at first and you hollered before pulling the baseball out from behind the nightstand next to your bed.
"You have ten seconds to put my baby down and walk away before I beat your head off of your shoulders."
Your hand shook slightly as you held the bat but your voice was firm and you planned to make good on your threat until Alfred chuckled and turned around to look at you over his shoulder.
"Aw, I get home after being away for months, anxious to see my baby boy and eager to hold my baby girl and she wants to kill me? Not cool dude!"
You blinked a few times in shock giving Alfred time to set your son back in his crib before you glomped him, wrapping your arms tightly around his neck and sobbing into his shoulder. You had missed him so much while he was gone, and you were so happy to see him now.
"I missed you so much! You don't even know! It was so hard to deal with everything! I was worried about you, and worried about not being a good mother, and stupid France kept coming over and flirting with me! Don't ever leave me like that again!"
Alfred smiled into your hair and wrapped his arms around you as he held you close, gently rubbing your back with small circles.
It is alright, I'm here now, and I'm not leaving anytime soon, and you did an awesome job as a mom, because you're an amazing woman! And don't worry about that pervert! The Hero is here now and he will always protect his family!"
You giggled at his childishness, you had missed it so much when he was gone, and you hadn't realized fully how much you had missed him until right now, when everything came crashing down on you, all the months of having to do everything alone, all the worry, all the stress, all the sleepless nights. You had felt it before, but you had been holding off most of it until now.
You were so tired, and you felt so warm and safe in Alfred's arms, you started to doze as you stood there, slumping against him slightly.
"Whoa dude! You alright?!"
Alfred pulled away from you and supported you gently as he looked into your eyes before leaning forward and pressing his lips to your forehead to feel for a fever.
The concern pooling into his deep blue depths captivated you, and you were ready to drown in the pools of color before you leaned up slightly and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
"I'm fine, just tired
And I feel so safe when you hold me, it makes it easy to fall asleep
Alfred relaxed and he pulled you close to him to hug you before he scooped you up into his arms and sat down on the bed, scooting over and leaning against the headboard with you in his arms.
"Then sleep, I'll be here when you wake up, just relax
You nodded and started to doze when you heard the baby start to cry again, you started to get up but Alfred stopped you and gently shifted you off of his lap to lay on the bed.
"I got it, you've done more than your fair share, and I've wanted to do this since I had to leave."
Alfred got up and walked over to the crib before gently picking your little boy up and walking back over to the bed, bouncing the him slightly in his arms and making silly faces.
"Come on dude! You gotta be a hero, little man! Who's gonna watch your mama when I'm gone? You've gotta beat up France for me!"
You laughed as Alfred used one of his hands to gently grab your son's tiny wrist and started making punching motions with his small fist.
"See? Like this! You'll have France running away like a scared cat in no time!"
"Alfie, if you keep that up he's going to grow up and want to be a boxer!"
Alfred looked up at you and shook his head with his eyes shining in determination.
"Nu-uh! He's gonna be a HERO!!! Just like his daddy!"
You couldn't help but chuckle and roll your eyes at your husband, he was such a goof, but that was what drew you to him in the first place, you loved how he always made you laugh. Sure he could be obnoxious at times, but then were times like now; He was still him, but he was calm, and he proved that he could be a an adult, he just chose not to most of the time.
"Alright, fine, will you two 'heroes' get in bed already?"
Alfred nodded and slipped into the bed beside you, gently laying your son between you before leaning over to give you a gentle kiss.
"Okay, okay. Happy now, babe?"
You nodded and laid your head down on the pillow as Alfred pulled the blanket up over the three of you before he too laid his head down and reached his arm across to pull you a little closer.
"You know I love you right? Both of you?"
Alfred looked up at you when you didn't reply and chuckled when he realized that you had fallen asleep, your son along with you. He shook his head and smiled as he let himself relax and drift off, thinking about his family and how lucky he was to have everyone in it.
